Stock Directional Movement Details

Stocks and stock markets, beit the NYSE, Nasdaq or the DOW, trend roughly only 30% of the time. Trading with the trend can be extremely profitable but you need to know "When's the trend." Directional Movement analysis results in quantifiable trend indicators upon which you can base both long and short positions. The decision to go long or short depends upon the trend signal generated by the stock. Stock trending signals are generated whenever the following occurs:
  • A stock up trend signal occurs when the +DI14 crosses above the -DI14 and the ADXR is greater than 25.
  • A stock Down trend signal occurs when the -DI14 crosses above the +DI14 and the ADXR is greater than 25.
dmTrend applies similar criteria - for detailed trading instructions refer to Trading Using The Directional Movement System. For details on Directional Movement calculations, refer to the Directional Movement System section of our website.
